MTN Rwanda Partners with Alliance Media to Remember Genocide

This month marks the 19th Anniversary of the Genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994. In just 100 days, over 800 000 men, women and children lost their lives in a wave of violence that began when the Hutus massacred the Tutsis. In commemoration of this, MTN has put up billboards around Kigali to remember those that passed on during the Genocide. The animosity between the Hutus and Tutsi was rife for decades. The Rwanda Genocide ended only when the (Rwandan Patriotic Front (a trained military group) defeated the Hutu perpetrator regime and President Paul Kagame took control. One global impact of the Rwandan Genocide is that it served as impetus to the creation of the International Criminal Court, so that ad hoc tribunals would not need to be created for future incidents of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Alliance Media and MTN express solidarity with those that lost loved ones during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis. The billboard was taken up by MTN, Africa’s largest mobile phone provider and long term client of Alliance Media.
